Lying In Da Sunnnnnnn.....

Ok so recently I've been fairly lazy outside of working, it was my roommate Kevin's 25th on Wednesday, we had a bit of a picnic down at the park, we'd missed the sunset but the views were still lovely... Then as not to be rude and break any kind of birthday tradition we ventured out to get a bit drunk within the quite Port Douglas weekly nightlife (if you can call it nightlife)... We ended up in Fluid the nightclub (again, if you could call this a nightclub?!) and I awoke the next morning not with a hangover, but I was still drunk. Rarely happens this... I scuttered off to work for 10am and managed to keep the hangover at bay with lots of water and some lovely breakfast from work.

This morning I couldn't sleep, but managed to crawl down to the beach and catch some rays for a couple of hours. The tide was going out as I was there and the waters were pretty nice along the beach. I almost stood on a crab, but it was lying on its back and was very dead.. I thought about taking it home for dinner, but I wouldn't know how long to cook it for let alone if it were a good idea to cook an already-dead crab... Lets not mention the fact that I wouldn't pick it up anyway because I'm too scared of the silly looking things.

I'm wondering how I'm going to save up enough to do the east coast and the Red Center in Australia. I'm in a bit of a panic that I won't have enough cash or time to do both, but I'll work something out, right??

Haven't really done anything else, there isn't much to do in Port Douglas except rent DVD's or get drunk... Which I shall probably be doing later on tonight as my social life is a bit below par at the mo.

There are some more pics on my gallery, but I canny be bothered to link to it in this post. Pure lazy.

Bye for now.

Out of Dougies and into Nimrods..

Morning Chickaroos....

Its pretty well known around here that its a bit difficult to find an apartment when you are only staying for several weeks, most are a fair way out of the town centre too. I was prepared to just live at Dougie's backpackers until I left Port Douglas, but Tai, (who I work with at La Cucina) said that there was a spare room where she was living. Myself and a friend Kevin have moved into a twin room and its $90 (each) per week. Sure beats $110 a week to stay in a stylee tent in a noisy hostel!

The weather is a bit pap, and although its coming into Spring soon (I think?!) there is rain all over the place, today its just cloudy. Its always warm though.

Its my day off today, which is good because I'd had enough of work yesterday, the old coffee machine finally blew up and so we had no hot drinks. Plus we had no polishing cloths so polishing wine glasses proved to be very frustrating. Tonight I think I'll enjoy a few bevvies at 'Gone Bananas', which is a lovely lil' restaurant with a bar that usually gets filled on 'Hospitality Night', which happens to be on a Monday night.... Gotta find something to do with myself in the daytime though!

Shaun - I hope you are having fun in New Zealand!?!
Suzi - Cheer up for god's sakes!!! Something good must have happened to you lately?
Bert - What is your e-mail address?

Cyas,

Stevie.

Beachlife...

Hej hej!

Hur mår du?

What trouble have I been getting myself in to?.. Hmm, well, actually, after a messy weekend in Cairns, I moved back to Port Douglas and switched hostels to a place called 'Dougie's backpackers', which is a great little place (and where everybody really does know your name after a while!.. and I seriously am really glad I came!) Most of the people here are working or are staying for a while, there are the usual dorm rooms and such but behind all that is a campsite, filled with campervans and tents, and crazy people that don't go to sleep until the early hours of the morning. I'm in something they call a 'stylee' tent, basically a medium sized tent big enough to fit in two wooden beds and a lil' side table. The guy I'm sharing with, Gabriel, is an old guy who is from South America. Maybe I should get him to teach me Spanish? Anyway he's a good chap and was a bit peeved with the Italian's winning the world cup. Who can blame him? Anyway, its $110 a week to stay there which is pretty cheap...

I worked most of the week, and I must say the bar work I have is fairly ok, its not really difficult or anything, and most of the people that work there are alright which helps. During the days I'm taking time out to sunbathe near the pool at the hostel, or on the wide-ass four-mile beach that is 10 minutes walk from my hostel. The beauty of this beach, with it being so so so long, is that you can have your own spot, far away from anyone else. There is of course a main bit at the nortern end of the beach, where the lifeguards are, and a load of sun loungers where the familes seem to go and stuff, but the rest of the beach is mostly bare, with the odd local or backpacker soaking up the rays. Some wind, or boardsurfing (or whatever you call it) goes on down the south end of the 4 mile stretch. Palm trees line the whole stretch, and they hide away the resorts and apartments that are in heavy numbers behind the beach. The weather has been great on some days, considering its supposed to be winter-going-into-autumn here, its been a bit chilly at night a few times, and its rained a tiny bit, but its mostly warm and when the sun is out its spankingly-great.

lushlushlushlushlushlushlushlush!

Another thing I noticed the other day, the sun actually rises and sets in the east and west like it does back home, but here it passes via the North!? Is this because Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere? Am I being really stupid? I never really thought about that, but its strange, and sometimes I almost lose my bearings as I think that the sun is in the South, but its in the North. Easily confused I guess.

After a messy Saturday night of drinking too much and dancing around like a maniac, followed by a Sunday filled full of the usual hangover joys, today I'm down in Cairns, may stay here a night as well, I'm not sure, depends on buses back, anyhoo Louise (who I used to work with in Blackbird in Sydney) is in town and she leaves tomorrow so we'll have a few bevvies and play catchup as she's just done the east coast.

I'm downloading the new Beach House album by Hed Kandi, as I'm in sore need of new music on my iPod! It is however taking an age to download, but will provide adequate tunage whilst I am increasing my chance of getting skin cancer on the beach.... So of course I have found time to amuse myself with the usual internet malarky such as Stickcricket and pictures like this. (He should have done it properly and landed one on the dirty Italian's nose!)

Thats it for now. Oh, before I go, Kelly, Kelster, the one-and-only, thanks for sending me that Gnarls Barkley track Crazy, I had heard it in some clubs around here but never knew the name. Its sitting happily on my iPod with its 5 stars... Their album must be worth a purchase, yes?

Ädjo!
